Orly to Release "Dark Shadows" Collection

This is my week to feel smug!  Last November, I wondering what would be the next big Hollywood film to team up with a polish company and release a theme collection.  I was sort of right when I suggested The Avengers but OPI announced their Amazing Spiderman collection.  But I was right on the money when it came to Tim Burton's Dark Shadows!

The polishes look pretty much in sync with the prominent colours on the Johnny Depp poster so at least they actually go together instead of following current trends like glitter polish, even though this film is set in the seventies and that actually would have been appropriate.  The colours are described as follows:

Mysterious Curse: Purple Duochrome Shimmer
Buried Alive: Rich Brown Shimmer
Grave Mistake: Deep Red Crème
Decades of Dysfunction: Pale Pink Crème

If I could pick just one, you know it would be Mysterious Curse.  I love me some duochromes!  Normally this would be the part of this article where I would say when the movie opens but, seriously, it looks like crap! Really, just watch this trailer...

Total Eclipse of the Heart From Color Blast by Orly

If you live in the GTA area, you may have noticed a new polish brand on their cosmetic shelves: Color Blast by Orly and frankly, I wasn't seeing anything in this line to really set it apart from the many, many others that are out there.  In fact, I didn't see anything different in the polish that I ended up purchasing, Total Eclipse of the Heart.  It's a green/purple, shimmer intensive, duochrome...

and that's a long description for something that although it is very nice, it's no standout from an already crowded market.  Now, that's not necessarily an insult because if you wanted to pick up MAC's Mean & Green from the Venomous Villains collection but missed out, this is a fair substitute.

TEFTH is surprisingly the greener of the two but they are kissing cousins. I would be remiss not to give props to the formula which was good, applied easily and didn't chip after three days.  It may be a new line but Orly's been in this business for a while now and if they are going to be asking for nearly $10 CDN for a bottle of drugstore polish, they need to step it up in terms of shades and innovation.

Another year has come and gone and I have to say that 2010 was not so great for me.   I have received great kindness from my family but they can't give me the one thing that I really need...a full time job.  I'm hoping that 2011 will be better, we'll see.

Surprise, surprise, I was in Winners last week and I was able to pick up a few polishes during Boxing Week sales.  One of those polishes was Ginger Lily from Orly and it's the first time I'm giving this brand a try. I  guess one can describe this colour as a burnt orange but in my book, I tend to group these kind of colours as more of a very warm brown since I would most likely wear brown or use neutral makeup while wearing this kind of colour.  I really like these kinds of colours but I don't find that they are that popular, I can always find them in a clearance bin but good luck finding a blue, green or dark grey in the same bin.  That just never happens!

Despite the fact that the brush is very, very thin Ginger Lilly applied very well.  The grip on the bottle is rubberized and is comfortable to use and the formula is great as well.  It only took two coats to get complete coverage and it dried without any issues.  If and when I find any more polishes from Orly, I am definitely going to buy more.
