Nail Polish Spam-A-Lama-Ding-Dong

I've got a few photos of polish kicking around that are just waiting to get posted.  So without further ado, here's a bunch of polish.

I picked up Personal Shopper from Sephora by OPI in a boxed set with 2 other polishes for free with beauty points, Yay!  Lord knows I love good red and this one is a pretty good one.  This red creme had a smooth application, was glossy & opaque in two coats and had minimal staining when I removed it.  No complaints here!

This one's from my sister's stash.  Rockstar Candy from the Complete Salon Manicure by Sally Hansen is a lovely pinkish/mauve shimmer with a terrible name.  I dislike marketers slapping the word "Rockstar" on anything and everything in a lame-ass effort to make it sound like it's cool or edgy: e.g Rockstar Chef...ugh!  Regardless, this is a good polish that has a durability that is standard with this line.  It's a good choice if it's still available.

Canadian clothing retailer Joe Fresh continues to expand, both in locations and with their cosmetics line.  They have added 24 new polish colours for spring:  More than any other company that I can think off of the top of my head.  One of the new polishes that I picked up is Pineapple.  It's a yellow so bright it verges on orange.  I would have named it Mango. You'd think this polish would glow in the dark and I like it a lot.  The round brush handle is still difficult to hold but the brush itself is wide and I got good coverage in 2 coats  It's funny how sometimes the simplest image can bring out a memory that you don't expect.  When I took this picture, I immediately thought of this image:

I love Duran Duran and John Taylor & Nick Rhodes are awesome guys, but that colour combination wouldn't look good outside of a country kitchen!

Rose Blush by Estee Lauder is a polish that I bought by accident.  The salesperson at the store that I bought it from put the wrong polish in my bag and I didn't realise it until I got home.  At first I was pissed but then when I looked the polish, I knew that I actually really liked it and now it's one of my favourites!  Go figure.  it's a calm and warm, shimmery neutral that's slightly on the pink side.  It's light enough that a few little nicks or chips can go unnoticed so bonus points for that.

This golden oldie comes courtesy of my sister's collection.  As you've probably noticed from the bottle, Cuckoo a light green shimmer, is an old polish from L'oreal's Wear Extraordinaire line from God know when.  It's like OPI's Simply Smashing without all of the glass flakes and if you're looking for complete coverage, you'd need 4 coats!  If you like this one, you'll probably have a hard time finding it.  I think she bought this in Montreal and that would have been, I don't know, 10 years ago?

I'm still feeling just as nostalgic as I was feeling last week.  I guess sometimes when you're down, you want to think about happier times.  Because of this I've compiling a itunes playlist called My Favourite Songs of All Time.  It's a pretty wacky mix that would most likely reflect the tastes of someone with multiple personalities.  I've got no specific taste in music, I just love what I love but the choices are odd enough for it to include songs from:

OPI Launches Yet Another Cross Brand Collection

With all of the recent polish OPI polish collections that teamed up with well recognized brands such as Katy Perry, Justin Bieber and Serena Williams, I can't say that I'm all that surprised to hear about Sephora by OPI's announcement today of the Glee nail polish collection.

Due to be released in February, the colours are described as:

• Hell to the No (vibrant purple)
• Slushied (opaque light blue) 
• Gleek Out (a shimmering lime green)
• Diva-in-Training (an on-trend poppy pink)
• Who Let the Dorks Out (peacock green)
• Miss Bossy Pants (a deep raspberry)
• Mash-Up (a pearlescent green gray.)

I guess I'll have to reserve my judgement on the collection until I actually see it with my own eyes because frankly, all of this cross promotion leaves me cold. I know I'll see something from this collection and I'll buy it and you can call me old fashioned (or just plain old), but I just want polish companies to keep making awesome nail polishes.  I completely realize that as a business, they are going to want to rope in younger/newer customers by associating themselves with what's cool to the kids.  It's good business sense to  try to create brand loyalty, but I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm not a fan of Katy Perry, Glee and Justin Bieber.  It's just my personal taste.  My favourite show is Breaking Bad and although I'd be very likely to buy a colour called Walter White, Methmouth Taupe or Blue Sky, somehow I don't think that's going to happen!

I'd love to see a collection inspired by my favourite talented/weird lady, Janelle Monae but I believe she has she  has already posed for Creative Nail Design.

I guess what I'm trying to say  is maybe I'd like to see a collection that isn't aimed at teens but when it comes down to it, it's the quality of the product that affects my buying habits and not the brand tied to the collection.

Dupioni by Joe Fresh & A New Frankenpolish

So it finally snowed in T.O. so I thought it might be a good time to break out Dupioni by Joe Fresh, a white shimmer that came in their Holiday gift set that included Midas.  This word rang no bells for me at all so I had to look it up to find that Dupioni is a type of silk that is often used in wedding dresses.  No wonder I never heard of it!  If there is one thing that is never mentioned in the same sentence, it's my name and wedding dresses!  Anyways, the quality of this polish is very good.  Yes, the bottle cap is a bit awkward to hold, but the brush itself is really wide and the formula is not watery which lead to a very smooth application overall.   I would have expected a white shimmer to be extremely streaky but this polish wasn't at all.  I'm not sure how often I would use this colour, since for some reason, I find white polish sort of makes nails look like they're fake, but I'm going to hang onto it because it's such good quality.

I've haven't been shopping yet in the new year but I wanted a new polish to play with.  So I grabbed some old polishes and whipped up a Frankenpolish so that I had something new.  I took Respect the World Nicole by OPI, Glow by Sally Hansen  and Creative Nail Designs Hyde in the Dark,  mixed them together and got this:

 

Hmm, Not Bad!

Although I'm really pleased with the result, it made me think of a couple of green polishes that I already had , namely Irene by Zoya & Leaf Him at the Alter from Sephora by OPI so I swatched them for a quick comparison:

Yay!  Looks like they're not that similar after all, since the frankenpolish has so much gunmetal in it and I've got a new toy to play with!
