Amazon's Flash & As Gold As It Gets

Anyone who knows me well, know that Wonder Woman is one of my favourite things and frankly I think that DC Comics reboot of the classic character is the best that series has been since it's relaunch in the 1980's but I'm not here to talk about that...L'Oreal's Amazon's Flash is one of the dumbest polish names I've heard in a while.  When I read the name out loud, somehow it sounded like a microscopic fingernail was scraping across a chalkboard deep in  the classroom of my brain.  I wasn't wild about the polish either.  Not that I had any issues regarding application or formula:  it's a perfectly acceptable polish but it's just not really anything special.  Yeah, it's a shiny, shimmering gold that would work better as a top coat than as a stand alone polish but I think  the fact that I couldn't be bothered to try to get a better photo than the one I've posted here really demonstrates my my complete and total apathy towards it.  It's like it's the nail polish equivalent of my feelings towards the new Spiderman movie:

On Second Thought, No...This Guy's Ass is So Much More Underwhelming!

Actually, I hate that guy's ass a lot. I vomit a little bit in my mouth every time I look at this picture. I like Essie's As Gold As it Gets a lot more than Amazon's Flash, probably because it wasn't pretending to be anything else but a top coat.

As Gold As It Gets Over Maybelline's Natural Beauty
I intentionally chose a warm toned neutral colour as a way to judge just how sparkly is. I felt that if I applied it over a red or a black polish it would stand out anyways, just based on the unavoidable contrast that would naturally occur and that wouldn't be the best way to judge it.  I really like this combination quite a bit as I liked seeing a little bit of extra flash to an extremely neutral polish colour but if you want more flash, you'll have to apply a second coat.  It also dried much faster than AM so if you find yourself in a pharmacy with AM in one hand and AGAIG in the other, pick up the Essie polish.  It's just the more versatile choice.

Spirit of Truth From MAC's Wonder Woman Collection Plus Some Lipstick & Lipglasses

This is officially the longest blog titles I have even written and it's also my most photo heavy as well. As anyone who knows me well, I have been eagerly waiting for this collection so I also look at this as an opportunity to display some of the items from my Wonder Woman collection. I picked up the Spirit of Truth nail polish, lipglass in Wonder Woman (which my sister also got), lipstick in Heroine and my sister also chose Secret Identity lipglass.  First up is Spirit of Truth:

Nail Polish Box With Metal Wonder Woman Purse

It's got a few nicks and chips because I wore it for almost a week before taking pictures of it.  This polish is one of the most pigmented I've ever seen. It literally was opaque in one coat and I love it!  It's exactly the right kind of blue to be associated with Wonder Woman as I try to attempt to show with the top photo with the lovely 1940's inspired WW doll.  As it is with most dark blue polishes, it was a bitch to remove, so I figure that when I'm going to wear it, it better be for more than two days so the trouble will be worth it.

Next up is Wonder Woman lipglass.  I love red lipgloss and I can resist buying every one I see, there was no way I would pass this one by:
Wonder Woman As Modeled by My Sister

Pretty with just one coat! I'm a lucky girl when it comes to lipglosses.  When I wear them, they never bleed so I seldom use a lipliner but if you have problems with lipglosses, I would recommend it.

Thirdly, here's the lipglass, Secret Identity:

I Love How the Boxes Line Up!  Artwork by Mike Allred and WW mousepad, Original Artwork by Brian Bolland

For people with our skintone, this gloss is a very warm neutral that puts me in mind of the caramel inside a chocolate.  Very nice and would probably be great for layering as well.

Next up is lipstick in Heroine.  It reminds me of Revlon's Coffee Bean but with a warmer undertone.  I find it suits my skin tone but it might not be flattering to some.  I am looking forward to rocking this in the summer with a faceful of bronzer!

So that's my haul!  Overall, I'm very satisfied with what I chose, especially the polish and WW lipglass.  I thought I might end off this post with a few of my favourite ladies of action from my personal collection:

Victorian Wonder Woman from Amazonia.  Original Design by Phil Winslade
World War II Wonder Woman

Fighting Mad Wonder Woman based of Darwyn Cooke's New Frontier Series

My First Wonder Woman Doll from the 1970's.  I Just Can't Throw her Away!
Until next time, don't break a nail!
But Feel Free to Kick Some Ass!

MAC's Wonder Woman Collection Does Include Nail Polish

Original Painting by My Awesome Twin Sister! (It Was Too Big to Put on a Scanner so My Photo is a Little Soft)

Many thanks for Jessica for giving me the heads up that the MAC Wonder Woman Collection will include nail polish and is much more extensive than the images that I posted yesterday.  Now I'm even more excited to get my hands on this stuff!

Suffering Sappho!  I want that blue polish!  And there's a gold pigment so that answers my other concern that the collection was lacking.  I better start rolling my change if I'm going to lasso what I want:)

MAC To Launch Wonder Woman Makeup Line & Me Into Bankruptcy

Clearly, This is Not the Time Diana Poked Out Her Own Eyes so She Could Defeat Medusa!
Hot on the heels of my moaning about too much cross branding comes a collection that is calling my name, loudly!  Those who know me know how much I love the Princess of Power.  I still buy the comic book to this day and I have an extensive Wonder Woman collection consisting of:

  • A WW doll collection that includes an original beat up 1970's Lynda Carter
  • T-shirts
  • Posters
  • Books
  • Statues
  • Mugs & lunch boxes
  • Hundreds of WW comics  including issue #204 when she gets back her powers and her costume after losing them during the rise of Women's Lib and also finds out she has a black sister:

Hippolyta Molded Her Out of a Darker Coloured Clay, No, Really!

I digress, but then I love to digress!  Despite being a devoted fan,  I'm positive that I won't be running up to the MAC counter and doing a grand arm sweep of stuff right into my bags, I'm still picky!  I'm sure to pick  up a blush and a lipstick, but I have to express my disappointment that there isn't a single nail polish in this collection.  Check out some of the stuff below:

I haven't included the entire collection because the cosmetic cases and brushes do not have interesting  designs and honestly, I find the range of colours a little bit limited. MAC is considered a trend setter so I find it surprising that it appears that there's only one shade of lipstick and gloss.  White pigment?  Why not gold?  I know she wears a star spangled bathing suit but I thought there would be something else that has gold tones in it besides the bronzer.  She got a golden lasso, everybody so what's up with that?  All that aside, I am planning to pick up some of these and my birthday is in March, the same month this collection launches (hint, hint!)!  Anyone out there feel inspired by the collection?
