Hipnotic by Colour Club

Magnetic nail polish, once all the rage...now collecting dust in drugstore bins!  I think the best thing about these polishes is that once the trend is over, you still have a decent looking and fast drying polish even if you don't use the magnet on it!  At any rate, I like this one from Color Club called Hipnotic, it really reacted well to the magnet and has some pretty good depth to it, plus it was cheap!

I've been spending so much time in my own head lately that you'd think my birthday was coming up.  It's not, but that hasn't stopped me from feeling like a mopey, sad clown on a dusty black velvet canvas.  Somebody painted it but who the hell wants to buy it?

Cosmetic Art's April Showers

While browsing one of my favourite stores to buy nail polish, I came across a display for a brand I'd never heard of before: Cosmetic Arts.  A quick Google search gave me very little information about the line but what little I did find (and from the tiny fine print on the back of the bottle), CA is onwed by The Forsythe Cosmetic Group who owns the well know Color Club brand.  I have a few CC polishes (7 bottles) and I like them well enough but in my opinion, this one bottle of April Showers was a better polish than all of them combined.  The photo above doesn't completely capture just how lovely the colour is.  It does have that beautiful blue & green flash to it and I'm a sucker for anything that invokes the image of the ocean. But what the photo doesn't show that is the polish also reflects with a light pink shimmer.  The brush was very wide and gave very good coverage with 2 strokes on the nail.  Granted it is a sheer colour, that's 3 coats pictured, but it was also an extremely quick drying polish and I didn't need to use any additional drying methods to get it to set.

Jewel of a Girl by Color Club

At least I think this is what this colour is called.  I found Jewel of a Girl by Colour Club in a boxed set that of the Untamed Luxury collection from a few years back at Winners.  Shopping at Winners can be tricky at times, especially when you’re buying makeup.  Most customers don’t think anything of opening almost every single package on the shelf, sticking their filthy fingers into every item, ruining any sterility it might have had and rendering it unsellable.  When you actually find something that has been untouched, you feel like you have to buy it because you were lucky to enough to find it unsoiled.

But the other catch to buying at a place like Winners is that what you get could be factory seconds.  When I looked up the Untamed Luxury collection online, some of the polish names didn’t seem to match up with what was in the box and none of the polishes were labelled either.  That in itself was a bit of a disappointment but there’s an upside:  This is a decent quality polish.  Granted, the brush is terrible.  It’s so thin, you’d think you opened a bottle of Revlon, so that’s a hassle as far as application goes and there was nothing too special about the longevity either.  However, the formula is quite good.  Just look at the deep burgundy opacity that was achieved with just two coats.  Now that’s what I call pigmentation!  Sort of makes you want to crack open a nice Merlot and just kick back for the evening.
