Snow White & the Huntsman by Deborah Lippman

Dark Side of the Moon
Prelude to a Kiss
When Deborah Lippman's Snow White & the Huntsman duo was first introduced, I had figured that we be getting a pair of original colours but it seems that the only thing new about these two polishes is the box that they came in!  Dark Side of the Moon (a deep wine) and Prelude to a Kiss (a light ballet pink) are part of the existing line and aren't unique in any way. But on the plus side of the situation, you'd been getting two full sized polishes at a lower price than buying them separately and that's definitely an advantage.

Both of these polishes have a great formula.  There's just something really smooth and flexible about DL polishes that makes them more shiny than the majority out there and they are more durable than most.  Both polsihes lasted 4 days without noticeable wear but both needs 3 coats for total coverage, especially PTAK because of its light colour.

Ask me which colour I prefer, I'll say that PTAK beats of DSOTM because it's just tough to top a good neutral.  They go with everything and frankly, I got a ton of compliments when I wore it.

I didn't go to see Snow White & the Hunstman but my sister did and said it was boring.  I took take her word for it and then I went to see the Avengers for the thrid time.  I wonder why I would do that...

Deborah Lippman to Release Snow White & the Huntsman Nail Polish

I've hit the nail on the head (yes, that terrible pun was intended) again in guessing which upcoming movie would have a nail polish line.  Deborah Lippman will be releasing its Snow White & the Huntman polishes in May.  Looks like it's limited to just two colours but if this polish is the same quality as Yellow Brick Road then I am buying that purple polish and using this news as another excuse to post of photo of Chris Hemsworth. Now if I'm lucky, I'll get that Catwoman polish nail that I've been dreaming so hard for!

You're Welcome!

Benefit Cosmetics to Release Snow White & the Huntsman Collection

Either I'm getting really good at predicting film & makeup merchandising or marketers are not as clever as they think they are.  on April 17th, 2012 Benefit Cosmetics will be releasing a line based on the look of Kristen Stewart in the upcoming film.  Great move Benefit!!!  Why on earth would any woman in her right mind want to look like this...
What a Troll!  What Bridge Did She Crawl Out From Under?

When she can look like this?

It Looks Like an Idea is Dying of Loneliness in There...
I've said before that it would take a massive amount of suspension of disbelief to convince me that Stewart is fairer than Theron and a spiffy line of colour from one of my favourite makeup manufacturers isn't going to convince me.  Well at least it gives me an excuse to post this picture.
You're Welcome!!!

OPI to Release Minnie Mouse Collection

Set to be released in July of 2012, the Minnie Mouse Collection by OPI will include four new pink polishes, including a pink "confetti" polish and blah, blah, blah, blah...blah...

blah, blah, pink, blah blah...This not a very exciting release to say the very least.  The only interesting this about this line is that kick-ass display.  Now, that I'd pay good money for!  The way the stand spiral out like film that's spooling off of its reel.  It's beautiful.

Orly to Release "Dark Shadows" Collection

link
This is my week to feel smug!  Last November, I wondering what would be the next big Hollywood film to team up with a polish company and release a theme collection.  I was sort of right when I suggested The Avengers but OPI announced their Amazing Spiderman collection.  But I was right on the money when it came to Tim Burton's Dark Shadows!

The polishes look pretty much in sync with the prominent colours on the Johnny Depp poster so at least they actually go together instead of following current trends like glitter polish, even though this film is set in the seventies and that actually would have been appropriate.  The colours are described as follows:

Mysterious Curse: Purple Duochrome Shimmer
Buried Alive: Rich Brown Shimmer
Grave Mistake: Deep Red Crème
Decades of Dysfunction: Pale Pink Crème

If I could pick just one, you know it would be Mysterious Curse.  I love me some duochromes!  Normally this would be the part of this article where I would say when the movie opens but, seriously, it looks like crap! Really, just watch this trailer...

OPI's Amazing Spiderman Collection!

Walloping Websnappers!!!  It seems like it was only a few months ago that I wondered out loud on this blog about what the next big movie & polish collection would be.  I had openly wished for an Avengers polish collection but it looks I was only partially right with the superhero angle and my spider sense was off that day  because here's six new colours:

China Glaze`s Hunger Games Polish Back On With A New Name: Capital Colours

Looks like China Glaze & Lionsgate Films settled out of court quickly as the Hunger Games Collection is back on with some name changes from the first promo images.  Two things stand out to me in this image: One, Colours is spelled in the proper English way and coming from an American company, I find it a bit odd.  Two, it`s interesting to me that the colours in the image of the character are not featured as a polish in the collection.  That`s too bad because that is a lot of purple going on there and I would have picked up a polish colour that looks like the flower she`s wearing.

China Glaze Sues Lionsgate for $10 Million Bucks Over "Hunger Games" Collection

Looks like it just got ugly in the world of film marketing and cross branding. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that American International Industries, owners of the China Glaze brand, have filed a $10 million law suit for breach of contract against Lionsgate Studios. Apparently the film studio is claiming that a deal with the polish manufacturer was only in the discussion phase and wasn't finalized.  Really the only thing that I'm honestly curious about is this:  Will this collection still be made under a different name?  I really wanted to pick up what would have been Primrose, Baker's Son & Flaming Gems.  Frankly the majority of the collection looks pretty so here's to hoping that once all the dust settles, we can still get our fingertips on some new polishes.

More Cross Branding With Nicki Minaj & The Hunger Games

It looks like that nail polish cross branding is still in high gear with the recent announcements of OPI’s Nicki Minaj Collection...

And the apparent but currently unconfirmed by Lionsgate China Glaze “Inspired by the Motion Picture” Hunger Games collection.

I guess it makes sense to tap into the preeminent pop culture pieces of our times.  I haven’t read The Hunger Games (and to be honest, I probably never will) but what little I know of the Katniss character, she doesn’t seem like a girl that has time to do her nails all that often.

As far as I’m still concerned (with the notable exceptions of the recent Wonder Woman & Venomous Villains collections from MAC) it’s the actual quality and the appearance of the polishes themselves that I’m primarily interested in, because that’s what people first notice when they notice your polish.  People will say “Oh, that’s a nice colour” not “That polish reminds me of Fozzie Bear!  I have the sudden urge to say Wocka Wocka!

And with that in mind, is anybody out there looking to pick up a polish or two from these upcoming collections?  Here are the details for the Nicki Minaj collection from OPI:

Metal 4 Life - shimmery gunmetal gray
Pink Friday - iridescent Barbie pink
Save Me - rainbow glitter-infused light blue
Fly - neon sky blue
Did it On Em - fluorescent lime green
Super Bass - deep plum, shatter polish

Now, the phrase “iridescent Barbie pink” was definitely a turn off when I read it but Pink Friday looks great in the promo image and I’m pretty sure that’s the polish I’ll buy from this collection.
And here are the details for The Hunger Games Collection from China Glaze:

Primrose - inspired by Prim
Rebel - inspired by Gale
Catnip - inspired by Katniss
Coal Hearted – inspired by District 12
Joined at the Seam – inspired by The Seam
Fight to the Finish – inspired by the night sky the Tributes look into
We Could Runaway – inspired by forest Katniss & Gale hunt in
Baker’s Son - inspired by Peeta
Cinna-mon – inspired by Cinna’s gold eyeliner
Fire in Flight - inspired by the Flaming Mockingjay
Heat of the Moment –  inspired by the costumes Katniss & Peeta wear into the Arena
Flaming Gems – inspired by Katniss’ interview dress
I have absolutely no idea what any of those above descriptions of “inspiration” mean but Primrose, Baker’s Son & Flaming Gems are the colours I’ll be checking out once this collection makes it into the stores.
